JMS Flower Farms, Inc. is a small, family owned business headquartered in Vero Beach, Florida. There is also a satellite office in Pendleton, Oregon. The business has been in operation serving the needs of growers both nationally and internationally since 1977 when the first use label was granted for its exclusive product ― JMS Stylet-Oil. Dr. John Simons ("Jack" to his family and friends) served as President of the corporation from 1977 – 2002. His two oldest sons (Jack and Jeff) joined the company as Technical Representatives many years ago and currently have almost 42 years of accumulative experience working with the company. Jeff currently runs the Vero Beach office as President of the company while his brother Jack runs the Pendleton office. Stylet-Oil was developed and brought to market by Dr. Simons in the mid-1970s after years of research in a virus screening program while working for Ciba-Geigy Corporation. The discovery that mineral oil could interfere with virus transmission of Poty viruses by winged aphids was at the time a breakthrough for virus-plagued vegetable growers in south Florida. For over two decades the oil has been used as a standalone product to combat the ravages of poty viruses on vegetables. By the mid-1990s it was discovered that Stylet-Oil also had utility as a powerful fungicide. Initial research showed Stylet-Oil had unique properties against powdery mildew diseases, including eradicant, protectant and anti-sporulant activity. Since the initial discovery, Stylet-Oil has been used for powdery mildew control on high value crops such as wine grape, tree fruit and sweet cherry. In addition, subsequent research has shown a high degree of efficacy against whitefly and plant feeding mites on numerous field crops as well as greenhouse crops. No other horticultural mineral oil in the world has been as thoroughly tested in the field as Stylet-Oil. These three uses ― for plant virus control, as a fungicide and insecticide ― have given commercial growers a powerful tool for pest control that is efficacious, inexpensive, and safe to both the environment and workers. The company continues to perform valuable research on innovative solutions to meet the changing needs of today's pest control markets.
