JMS Flower Farms, Inc. proudly announces Federal registration of the newest member of the Stylet-Oil family of products ― Organic JMS Stylet-Oil. The label for Organic JMS Stylet-Oil includes the same crops, pests, diseases and use recommendations as the original Stylet-Oil label.

Same High Purity Base Oil In fact, the exact same high purity base oil used to formulate the original Stylet-Oil has been used to formulate the Organic version. This means the same active ingredient which kills powdery mildew on contact and controls mite populations at theHealthy fruits and vegetables same time is now available to organic growers. For the first time, organic growers have access to a horticultural mineral oil that is 99% pure, contains zero percent aromatic content, is colorless, odorless, tasteless and is safe to field workers and the environment.

New Advanced Emulsification System The emulsification system used in the organic oil has been modified and now includes ONLY Inert Ingredients on EPAs List 4 the safest, most benign products used to formulate agricultural chemicals. This proprietary emulsification system was years in the making but we think it was worth the wait.

All "Food Grade Quality" Components Not only does the base oil in Organic JMS Stylet-Oil meet "Food Grade Quality" standards (b&c) but the Inert Ingredients in the emulsification system meet "Food Grade Quality" standards as well. This high level of purity makes Organic JMS Stylet-Oil the safest, most environmentally friendly mineral oil available to organic growers.

Alternative To Sulfur We see Organic Stylet-Oil as an excellent fit as an alternative to sulfur for both insect and disease control. Sulfur, while a workhorse to the industry, nevertheless has Peach and pearseveral limitations, including volatility. Every pound of sulfur evaporates into the atmosphere and combines with water to form acidic rain. And, this volatility does NOT occur at temperatures below 65° F making sulfur all but useless for early season powdery mildew control when cool temperatures predominate (see Spray Program Recommendations).

In addition, sulfur has long been associated with mite flair-ups. This is likely the result of sulfur vapors indiscriminately killing predatory mites in the crop which cannot reproduce as quickly as plant feeding mites. This change in population dynamics often leads to high plant feeding mite populations as the season progresses.

Organic Stylet-Oil, on the other hand, is an excellent fungicide against powdery mildew diseases and also an outstanding miticide. Unlike sulfur, oil efficacy is not affected by temperature thus oil applications made at temperatures below 65° F will kill mildew on contact while protecting sprayed plant surfaces for 10 to 14 days. At the same time, the oil is also controlling plant feeding mite populations through suffocation and by interfering with feeding and egg laying.

Organic Stylet-Oil will provide organic growers with a powerful new tool in disease and pest control. And, this will be accomplished by not harming the environment with contaminates as is the case with sulfur application.

Container Sizes Organic JMS Stylet-Oil is available in the following container sizes:
              WB01073_.GIF (256 bytes)    2-1/2 gal jugs
           WB01073_.GIF (256 bytes)   15 gal drums
           WB01073_.GIF (256 bytes)   30 gal drums
           WB01073_.GIF (256 bytes)   275 gal totes
The bulk packaging translates to a significant cost savings for organic growers.

Safe To Beneficials Organic Stylet-Oil will be just as safe to beneficial insect populations as the original Stylet-Oil. Organic growers can feel confident in spraying oil applications and not decimate beneficial insects foraging in the crop. Mineral oils are generally regarded as safe to beneficial insects, however, if enough oil contacts a beneficial insect suffocation can occur. Our observations over the past 25 years, however, have consistently shown high survival rates of all four stages of  lady beetle and lacewing as well as high leafminer parasitism rates by parasitic wasps while applying twice-weekly oil applications to vegetables (melon and sweet pepper).
