JMS Stylet-Oil For Grass Seed Use has been formulated to the same exacting standards as the original Stylet-Oil ― 99 % Unsulfonated Residue (UR) base oil blended with a high performance emulsification system. The base oil is colorless, tasteless and odorless plus, has an aromatic content of zero percent. This product meets industry standards for a Technical Grade White Mineral Oil.

History ― Stylet-Oil has been used successfully in Oregon's Willamette Valley since 1996 for stripe rust control. Tens of thousands of acres of Perennial Ryegrass, Bluegrass, Orchardgrass, and Fescues have been sprayed annually by tank mixing Stylet-Oil with aKentucky Bluegrass.jpg (13340 bytes) systemic fungicide such as Tilt, Folicur or Quadris for the control of rust diseases and powdery mildew.

Trial Results ― Oregon State University and independent trials have shown Stylet-Oil to have efficacy (as a suppressant) against stripe rust on grasses grown for seed when sprayed alone. In addition, efficacy against rust disease has been enhanced when the oil has been tank mixed with a systemic fungicide such as Tilt, Folicur or Quadris compared to spraying a fungicide without the oil. University and independent tests have shown 1 quart of oil + Tilt @ 4 oz / Acre to be as effective as the 6 oz / Acre rate of Tilt alone (data available upon request).

Application Strategies ― Stylet-Oil is typically used as a tank mix with systemic fungicides. The oil has activity alone on rust disease (as a suppressant) when sprayed at the 1 qt / Acre @ 20 gpa rate but dramatically enhances uptake of systemic fungicides when tank mixed  for superior disease control. Growers typically drop the rate of the systemic material when tank mixing the oil to reduce their chemical spray costs.

Two basic strategies are used with Stylet-Oil for control of rust diseases on grass seed, both of which have merit ―

Spray Model No. 1 ― Tank mix the oil with a label rate (or slightly reduced rate) of a systemic fungicide with each fungicide spray application to prevent disease development

Spray Model No. 2 ― Tank mix the oil with a label rate (or slightly reduced rate) of a
Tall Fescue systemic fungicide with the second spray application to enhance uptake of the systemic fungicide after the leaves and stems have hardened off

Use Rate ― JMS Stylet-Oil For Grass Seed Use should be applied by ground equipment for thorough coverage when powdery mildew and rust pustules are noticeable and increasing in number, in late spring or early fall. Repeat at
14 - 21 day intervals. Use high rate under severe disease pressure. Spray with a minimum of 20 gal/A of water.

Container Sizes ― JMS Stylet-Oil For Grass Seed Use is available in the following container sizes:
              Purple bullets_diamonds.gif (96 bytes)    2-1/2 gal jugs
           Purple bullets_diamonds.gif (96 bytes)   15 gal drums
           Purple bullets_diamonds.gif (96 bytes)   275 gal totes
The bulk packaging translates to a significant cost savings for grass seed growers.

Best of luck in your pest control programs this season!

As with any crop protection product, always read and follow label directions before using the product. If you plan to use Stylet-Oil in a tank mix, be sure to only use products which are chemically compatible with the oil and are registered for use on crops which Stylet-Oil is registered on.
