JMS Stylet-Oil is a technical grade white mineral oil formulated with its own emulsification system. This unique formulation has been designed to prevent the development and spread of plant diseases, harmful pests and certain plant viruses transmitted by insects. JMS Stylet-Oil exceeds standards set by the FDA for food grade mineral oil, is colorless, tasteless and odorless and has the highest purity level (99.1%) of any mineral oil sprayed on food crops.

As a fungicide, JMS Stylet-Oil controls a number of ecto-parasitic fungi by destroying their cell walls in as little as three seconds and by interfering with the organism’s attachment to its host. JMS Stylet-Oil has at least four physical modes of action against grape powdery mildew: protective, pre-lesion, post-lesion and anti-sporulant. As an insecticide and miticide, JMS Stylet-Oil controls harmful pests through suffocation and by modifying insect behaviors such as feeding and egg-laying. JMS Stylet-Oil interferes with the pest’s ability to chemically communicate with a host plant. Because beneficial insects use different host sensing mechanisms to detect and catch their prey, beneficial populations are not significantly impacted when spraying JMS Stylet-Oil.

For plant virus control, JMS Stylet-Oil interferes with virus transmission and behaviors of virus spreading pests such as aphids and whiteflies. Viruses can be transmitted from a virus-carrying pest to a healthy plant in less than twenty seconds, but JMS Stylet-Oil interferes with the transmission process thus preventing inoculation of healthy plants. Furthermore, JMS Stylet-Oil works on a physical level (not a biochemical level) which means pests and plant diseases simply cannot build up resistance to JMS Stylet-Oil no matter how much they are exposed to the oil.

After 33 years of continuous use in agriculture, not a single insect or plant disease has developed resistance or tolerance to JMS Stylet-Oil.
